Earthquakes and Japan Building Code Change History

If you worry about earthquakes, and you would like to find apartments or properties are safer to invest in, read this.

Earthquakes are common in Japan. There were two major Earthquake Building Code Law changes during year 1979 and 2000 (see the graph below or click on the related link for the orgional document.) I am advised by my real estate agent to buy my properties in Japan built after June, 1981(reinforcing steel bars foundations are required
) and better yet after 2001.

Earthquake Insurance is available in Japan. I will find out more about it and post the information here.

The general rule is, buy a home on the land that existed on the map of Japan 300 years ago. (I will post a map of that when I find it.)

Earthquake specialists in Japan advised that the tsunami might reach Minato Ku area. Personal I avoid areas that are too close to the ocean, such as Chiba, Tokyo Bay, Minato Ku, sakurakichou and Yokohama.
